We all have heard about the Red Cross. After all, they’ve been around since 1881! They are involved in many areas of service including disaster relief, providing lifesaving blood, training and certification programs, helping military families and international services.
There mission statement: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
When Hurricane Matthew and the Southern tornadoes occurred, who did you see on TV right away? The Red Cross. This organization has responded to 16 large disasters around the country and thousands of smaller disasters in 2016. According to their website, an average of 91 cents of every dollar the American Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs.
The Red Cross certainly does provide a lot of world relief. Although we all hope we will not need that kind of relief, I’m sure we would want to see them at our side if we have the unfortunate need for their assistance.
